A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
My name is Nicola Hydes, and I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and the founder of NH Counselling. I hold professional training in a range of therapeutic approaches, which allows me to adapt counselling sessions to meet the individual needs of each client. I have experience working with adults and young people in both private practice and educational settings, supporting issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship challenges, and the impact of trauma.
My approach places the therapeutic relationship at the centre of the counselling process. I aim to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel supported in exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Counselling with me is a collaborative process. Together, we can reflect on difficulties you may be facing, develop new insights, and find ways to move towards a healthier, more balanced life.
As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I fully adhere to the principle, commitments and requirements of their Ethical Framework.
I am fully insured and receive regular monthly supervision. I am consistent with ongoing personal development and training. I am also registered with the ICO complying with data protection requirements related to client confidentiality. i have an up to date DBS certificate.
Counselling offers a safe and supportive space to explore the challenges you may be facing. It can help with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, relationship issues, low self-esteem, or the impact of past trauma. Through the counselling process, you can begin to make sense of your experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and move towards greater clarity, balance, and wellbeing.
Every person is unique, and so is their experience of counselling.
I work integratively, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches and adapt them to suit your individual needs. This allows us to explore your concerns in a way that feels most helpful for you—whether that’s reflecting on past experiences, focusing on present challenges, or finding practical strategies to support day-to-day life.
At the heart of my approach is the counselling relationship. I believe real change happens when you feel safe, understood, and accepted.
My role is not to give advice or tell you what to do, but to create a supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Counselling can sometimes bring up difficult or painful emotions, but it can also lead to greater self-understanding, resilience, and new possibilities for change. We will work together collaboratively, and you remain in control of what you choose to share and the pace at which we move.

I’m based in Cardiff, South Wales, and offer sessions to clients across the UK via Zoom or telephone.
The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. We'll discuss your goals, any current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and see if working together feels like a good fit.
There’s no pressure to commit beyond the first session unless you feel comfortable continuing.
This varies depending on your needs and goals. Some clients find short-term counselling (6–12 sessions) helpful, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We can review this together as we go along. Therapy is always your choice, and you're free to pause or end at any time.
Each session lasts 50 minutes, and sessions are typically held once a week at a regular time.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or PayPal prior to each session. Details will be provided once we’ve agreed to work together.
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full rate, except in cases of emergency or illness.
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is treated with strict confidentiality. The only exceptions are where there is a legal requirement or serious risk of harm to yourself or others. We’ll go over confidentiality in more detail in your first session.
At this time, I offer therapy exclusively online via Zoom or by telephone. Remote therapy offers flexibility and comfort, and many clients find it just as effective as in-person work.
